Ford Repair and Service in Arvada, CO
Ford covers a lot of ground — from F-150s that tow trailers up I-70 every weekend to Focus STs that rip through canyon roads. We service the full Ford lineup, and we also tune several Ford EcoBoost platforms. That means we understand these engines from both a maintenance and a performance perspective, which is useful when your check engine light comes on and the code says "boost pressure exceeded."
The EcoBoost engine family is everywhere now: F-150 (2.7L and 3.5L), Explorer (2.3L), Edge (2.0L and 2.7L), Focus ST (2.0L), Fiesta ST (1.6L), and Mustang EcoBoost (2.3L). These are good engines, but they're direct-injected turbos, which means carbon buildup on the intake valves is a real thing. By 60-80K miles, the valves can be caked enough to cause misfires and rough idle. We do walnut blasting to clean them — it's a 3-4 hour job that makes the engine feel new again.
For F-150 and Explorer owners, the 3.5L EcoBoost is a strong truck engine, but the timing chain guides and cam phasers are a known failure point in the 2011-2017 models. If you hear a rattle on cold starts, don't ignore it.
Common Ford Services We Handle
- Intake valve carbon cleaning (walnut blasting) on all EcoBoost engines
- Timing chain and cam phaser replacement on 3.5L EcoBoost F-150
- Turbo replacement on EcoBoost engines (wastegate actuator failures are common)
- Clutch replacement on Focus ST and Fiesta ST
- Spark plug replacement on EcoBoost — these need to be done every 30-40K miles, not 100K
- Coolant intrusion diagnosis on 3.5L EcoBoost (coolant leaking into cylinders)
- Brake pad and rotor replacement on F-150 and Explorer
- Blend door actuator replacement on F-150 (clicking behind the dash)
Ford EcoBoost Performance Tuning
Ford's EcoBoost engines are some of the best tuning platforms on the market right now. We tune Focus ST, Fiesta ST, and Mustang EcoBoost via the COBB Accessport, and Dave is a certified COBB Protuner for the Ford platform.
A Focus ST with a COBB Accessport protune, downpipe, intake, and intercooler upgrade puts down around 280-300 wheel horsepower — that's a significant jump from the stock 250 crank. The Fiesta ST responds even better on a percentage basis — a tuned Fiesta ST with bolt-ons is one of the most fun cars per dollar you can buy.
The Mustang EcoBoost (2.3L) is an underrated tuning platform. Most people go straight for the GT, but a tuned EcoBoost Mustang with an intercooler, downpipe, and charge pipes makes 330-360 wheel horsepower. That's quicker than a stock GT from ten years ago, and it gets better gas mileage.
We do all EcoBoost tuning on our Mustang AWD dyno so we can monitor boost, air-fuel ratios, and knock in real time. If you're coming from a stock car and want a plan, we'll put together a build list that makes sense for your budget and power goals.
Why Bring Your Ford to Cryotune
We work on Fords from both angles — the repair side and the performance side. That dual perspective means we catch things other shops miss. When a Focus ST comes in for a rough idle, we're not just scanning codes and replacing parts — we're checking boost logs, looking at fuel trims, and checking the intake valves for carbon. We know what these engines do because we tune them every week.
Dave's COBB Protuner certification covers the Ford EcoBoost platform specifically, and his EFI University training covers the fundamentals of boosted engine calibration. Your tune isn't being written by someone who watched a YouTube video — it's written by someone with 15+ years of professional calibration experience.
